About

This blog should really have arrived on the scene two years ago but I put it off for two main reasons: lack of time and confidence. After much prompting and encouragement, I finally heeded the call to do what I am very passionate about: writing and glorifying Christ!

The Watchman

What started off as a hobby has now grown into a strong desire and passion to provide an arsenal of resources (text articles, audio and video) for believers everywhere. I particularly want to target my generation because the bible says …My people perish for lack of knowledge.

I hope this blog serves the purpose of pooling together trusted resources into a one-stop shop where those who are hungry and thirsty for growth can have their spiritual needs met. Another purpose of this blog is to alert people to what’s going on in the world around us so we are not caught out by the subtle tactics of the devil. I also hope to stimulate discussion amongst readers and create a community where we can all grow and learn from each other. As we challenge each other, I pray that iron sharpens iron.

Sit back and enjoy! Please pray for the ministry as well. Much appreciated. Thanks again for stopping by. Don’t forget to share your thoughts even if you don’t agree with my views. I have a lot to learn myself and no contribution is ever a waste on this blog. Many thanks from the Watchman.

  11. Hello Watchman. I just came across your blog through The Living Letters Chronicles. Thank you for obeying the Lord’s prompting. This looks like a really great site! I saw your post w/Derek Prince. A mentor at church has recently introduced me to his teachings, and I have been very blessed by them, as well. Also, I have felt a similiar call to live out loud – to allow Jesus to live and flow through me, particularly in sharing what He is teaching me and showing me through writing.
May the Lord guide you and use you for His good purposes and may He build us up together as His Body and fill us to all fullness with Himself. COME, LORD JESUS! Let your kingdom come and your will be done!

    • Watchman says:

Hi wordprocessor. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement. I’m truly grateful you stopped by and checked out the blog. I will be checking yours out too and praying for God to use you mightily through your writing.

I have truly been blessed by the ministry of Derek Prince over the past couple of years. You are in for a treat! You can watch a documentary about him on the blog if you like. Just type his name in the search box. Thanks again for stopping by. You will be seeing me on ur blog from time to time. God bless.

  12. Please do drop by! I would love your feedback and thoughts. I really believe that iron sharpens iron and that we were meant to live together, learn together and grow together in Christ. I can’t wait to check out more of your posts. I really love how you are gathering resources for us all. Really great! Thank you. I am excited to listen more to Derek Prince’s teachings. I have a few videos sitting in my email (sent by that same dear friend who introduced me to him) waiting to be watched…going to try (with God’s help) to make time for one of them today ;)
God bless and keep you, brother and new friend!

  13. Watchman says:

I already have! Just took a sneak peek whilst at work and I’m hugely impressed by the quality and quantity of material you have been able to muster in such a short period of time. Iron definitely sharpens iron and I hope we will be able to learn from one another and encourage each other through our writing. God bless you too my new friend. Not sure if you’re a brother or sister though. Thanks again wp.

  14. I’m your sister in Christ :)

  15. Watchman says:

I figured that out after reading the lost and found page on your blog. well done sister. keep up the good work.

  16. upwardliving says:

Let’s trade links. That way we both get referrals to our blogs.

  17. Watchman says:

no probs bro! Instructions pls!! lol.

  18. Your idea for a book review section is great! I’ve rarely seen it online, and for a while have been wanting to add the concept to mine blog. With all the fine books we’ve read over the years, it’s a real shame to not share their contents! Especially since the subjects that we engage in are of a spiritual matter. Being concerned for others lives impels us in new directions; as we share the news with people.
Currently though; the blog has a resource page, which lists some main biblical topics and many links. Feel free to share the URL: and happy surfing to you, Watchman and our fellow readers here too!

    • Watchman says:

Thanks for this link. I will surely be checking it out soon. You’re right about sharing thoughts on resource materials. It’s even more important when it concerns spiritual matters. Thanks again

  19. Freedomborn says:

Thank you Watchman it is good to have a vision but in response to your statement…….. Thanks again for stopping by. Don’t forget to share your thoughts even if you don’t agree with my views. I have a lot to learn myself and no contribution is ever a waste on this blog.

As I read some of your messages I was encouraged by your strong stand for God’s Truth and your passion, we are indeed the Body of Christ and need each other, and we continue to learn as Jesus Christ our only Teacher leads us into all truth, yet I still need to ask… are you willing to learn? there are those who claim this but then attack and abuse when shown they are wrong even though it is by confirmation of the Scriptures.

I would like to share something with you and would welcome your views on my Blog or on yours. Blog Link – http://freedomborn.wordpress.com/2011/10/10/the-gaining-of-wisdom/

    • Watchman says:

Thanks Anne. I have to say that I found your question very refreshing. It caused me to really search my heart and check my motives. I agree that many say they are willing to learn but let their actions contradict their words whenever their views are challenged. Although I try to maintain a teachable spirit at all times, I’m pretty sure there are times when I have failed to respond humbly following a challenge to my views. It is something I aspire to develop to its fullness because pride comes before a fall. I will have a look at the link. Thanks Anne

  20. jendacrystel says:

    i’m definitely following you. :)

Hi Watchman one thing I look for in Christians is Integerity in that they say what they mean …Thanks Anne. I have to say that I found your question very refreshing. It caused me to really search my heart and check my motives. I agree that many say they are willing to learn but let their actions contradict their words.

I respect that you don’t just say what iching ears what to hear Watchman believing as you do that God knows our heart, so thank you for standing up for God’s Truth and being willing to accept correction if needed, especially now that I’m staying on earth and have decided to get things in order with the Help of my friend and yours.

    Dear Sir/Madam,
I am very happy to write you this letter.I hope by the grace of our almighty God you are fine as I’m.
The reason is that I want to become a member of your ministry. So that we can communicate with each other as christians. There are many things I need to grow in Christianity.I would be very happy If my request of being a member is accepted
Further more, I am a christian but I go to church without a Bible.
So I would like you to donate me some Bibles and christian tracts and books so that I can share with my friends who also do not have some.
I know my letter would be accepted in peace through our Saviour. I would be glad if these Bibles and books are sent monthly or yearly
    Yours faithfully,
    Nathaniel Annan Dadson.

  30. Nnamds says:

Honestly, i am slightly overwhelmed at the sheer passion, enthusiasm and dedication by a man in my generation to serve the LORD. May you finish strong and may your ministry grow in accordance to the will of CHRIST. May the kingdom of darkness never prevail over you or your ministry. Praise GOD for you. Keep it up.

    • Watchman says:

Hey bro (dangerous assumption nut I’m going by the name Nnamdi)! Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement. I cannot emphasize enough how much these sort of comments spur me on. It’s true that the main drive to do all this is God Himself but I also appreciate the encouragement of fellow people. Thanks so much for your prayers. May the Lord reward your kindness bountifully.

  40. Rodney Bowen says:

Good morning! Having just recently discovered your review of Francis Chan’s “Crazy Love” on your website, I wanted to touch base to determine how I may submit a new non-fiction book titled, Embracing Obscurity from B&H Publishing for your review consideration.

I am working alongside B&H to identify a select number of faith-based bloggers to join the review team for this book. Your writing style & “illuminating lives through the light of His Word” message seem to be a perfect fit for the type of writers/bloggers I’m interested in reviewing the new book.

Please review the following information for Embracing Obscurity and let me know by this Thursday (8/23/2012) whether you are interested in reviewing this unique book on your website as well.

    Sincerely,
    Rodney Bowen

Unimportance: Surprisingly Good for the Soul

It’s not self-confidence that humans lack, it’s that we have too much self-importance, says an author who , by virtue of that, has chosen to remain anonymous. Or Anonymous.

“We have such a high opinion of ourselves that to live and die unnoticed seems a grave injustice. Yet, has God called us to be anything else?” The very challenge, the very calling, is in fact to embrace obscurity. “When we accept that our value is not dependent on what we do or accomplish, we are – ironically – liberated to do much for Christ.”

Finding that ability – to think little of ourselves – is the topic of the eye-opening book Embracing Obscurity: Becoming Nothing in Light of God’s Everything (B&H Publishing Group, 978-1-4336-7781-6). Arguably so counter to the desire of humans to “make a mark” on the world, Anonymous argues for the exact opposite, an about face that means rejecting the world’s views of significance.

“One of the greatest ironies of all time is that when we give up the hope of earthly fame and fortune, and instead embrace the obscurity of a life given in service to Christ, we are immediately touched with immortality and assured of eternal glory. By Christ’s own decree, we should be no more defined by the world than He is. Ours should be a different embrace.”

Embracing Obscurity is a call to action to recalibrate the strangling embrace of the world to God’s standards for God’s glory. Too frightening to put away definitions of achievement, success, and reward and replace them with new ones? The alternative is to allow our intoxication with the world draw us away from our Maker and His mission – an epidemic so common most of us do not even know we are under the influence, says the author.

Those radical enough to embrace obscurity will journey far from the spotlight, towards sacrifice, humility, significance in the Spirit, servant hood, and the mystery of Christ’s becoming nothing to glorify the Father (Phil. 2:5-11).

    • Watchman says:

Hi Rodney. It would be an absolute privilege to review your new book. I am very excited to learn more about embracing unimportance. I couldn’t agree more with your line of thought. Please let me know what the next steps are. Thanks for this opportunity.

  41. Doug Bender says:

    Watchman,
I found your blog via a post you made about I am Second (www.iamsecond.com) a while back. I work with I am Second as a small groups coach and author of our upcoming book, Live Second: 365 Ways to Make Jesus First. We are gathering 15 bloggers to blog their way through 4 days of the book and chronicle their spiritual journey as they read. Each blogger would write four entries (one for each day) and we would post those entries on the official I am Second blog along with a link back to your main blog (a little bit of cross-promotion). I would love to talk with you about possibly guest blogging with us and/or reviewing the Live Second book. Just shoot me an email (doug.bender@e3partners.org) if you are interested. Thanks.

    Doug

  42. Great blog Watchman! I can’t wait to read more. You have very valuable resources available. Thank you and God bless!
