Like a Roaring Lion

I came across this interesting video clip on youtube and it spoke volumes to my heart.

Here we find a little girl at a zoo in New Zealand initially flinching at the agression of a massive lion and then deciding to stare it down (albeit behind a protective glass barrier)!

A few things crossed my mind when I watched that video.

The first was Peter’s warning to believers in 1 Peter 5:8 which says, Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around LIKE a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

I highlighted the word LIKE in that scipture because we tend to forget to put things in perspective with regards to the devil. He is not a roaring lion. He is only like one! Big difference. You see, when it comes to lions in the spirit realm, there’s only one Lion that really matters. In fact, one of His official titles is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to those who are wondering.

He dealt Satan a decisive blow at the cross and essentially eliminated the powers of fear and death that he used to intimidate mankind. The bible confirms this in several places but one scripture that nicely depicts this truth is Colossians 2:15, which says, And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Did you know that the devil cannot just pounce on a child of God at his whim? He is on a leash and has to ask permission from God first. Like that lion in the video clip, a barrier separates you from the wiles of the devil. That barrier is the blood of Jesus, by which we overcome the enemy. In Luke 22:31, Jesus gave Peter a heads up when He warned, Simon, Simon, (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that all of you be given up to him out of the power and keeping of God, that he might sift all of you like grain, But I have prayed especially for you (Peter), that your own faith may not fail; and when you yourself have turned again, strengthen and establish your brethren. Notice that Satan had to ask for permission first before attempting to attack the faith of the disciples.

In another insightful story that clearly illustrates the sovereignty of God over all including the devil, read Job chapters 1 and 2. The context is very intriguing but the key verses that reveal what I’ve been emphasising can be found in Job 1:9-12, which says, “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face. The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself DO NOT LAY A FINGER.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

Once again, we see that Satan is definitely on a leash when it comes to the children of God. This is contrary to the popular view that Satan has been left to run amok in the world and God has somehow lost control of everything. That little girl somehow understood that the lion could not get past that barrier. She knew she was safe and although she flinched at first, boldness grew within her and she was able to stand her ground. We could learn a lot from her response. It is true that sometimes the enemy throws the kitchen sink at us and we may flinch momentarily but a righteous man or woman was never meant to stay down for too long. He or she rises up again on the wings of faith based on a revelation of who Christ is and the victory He has wrought for them.

Ephesians 6:13 says, Therefore put on God’s complete armour, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day of danger, and, having done all the crisis demands, to stand firmly in your place. Like that little girl, we ought to stand in the face of evil and danger, knowing that the armour of God protects us from the pretend lion. Remember that he isn’t one. He is only LIKE one.

I don’t know what you may be going through at this point in time but I hope I have been able to encourage you to see things from a different perspective. You are not a helpless victim waiting and hoping that the devil does not notice and attack you. No way! You are much more than that. You are a mighty conqueror in Christ Jesus and the demons tremble when you wield your inherited spiritual authority in faith and understanding.

If you have an unhealthy fear of the enemy then perhaps you need to change your seat! Yes, change your seat and see him from a new vantage point. See him for what he really is. A defeated foe who should not be underestimated but certainly not feared or compared to the far superior power of Christ. Ephesians 2:6 tells us that we are now jointly seated with Christ in the heavenlies. Everything else is under His feet and ours by default. Roaring lion? What roaring lion? God is in absolute control and if He is Lord of your life then there’s nothing to fear.

Hi Watchman, thank you, it is good to recognise that Satan is limited in his testing of us, God as we can see in the illustrations you shared set limits even though the Devil has every right to temp us through our evil flesh nature, this is why we must put it to death, which is something Jesus did not have to do having been conceived by The Holy Spirit and so having God’s seed even though He had the outward flesh of man, He was sinless and so was able to be our Sacrifice and Redeem us. This is why He is our armour and in Him we are safe.

When Jesus was put to the test He used Truth to defeat Satan and His Truth to encourage us is …No Temptation will be greater then we can bear and as we choose good and turn from evil with then being Born again of God’s seed, perfected in Love and having the mind of Christ 1Corinthians2:9-16 we will choose to always do what is good and not what is evil and so we cannot be judged by man and Satan will never have a foothold again, as our very goodness which reflects Christ’s will send him fleeing.

God does not put us to hard testing, He can do no evil, He tells us to come close to Him and the Devil will flee, it is our choice, God never overrules our free will, He is not in control of the evil in our lives, if we welcome it, we will reap what we sow which means we can’t come close to God with our evil flesh natures still in control and the Devil does not flee and this is what we have chosen not God.

James 1:12-14 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that Love Him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Satan is not a snake either but he did indwell one in the garden of Eden and God left us a reminder that the devil is limited even if in control of this world which he gained through man’s sin. I did a few posts about this Truth.

1John 5: 19- 20 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is True, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God and eternal life.N.K.J.V

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

Hi Robin , have you heard any more ? I have not seen any coverage of this massacre, I would be very grateful if you would let me know any new developments.

Dear Heavenly Father we are grieved to hear of this horrific crime against your Children, yes we know their souls are safe eternally and that Satan can not separate them from your Love but we pray for the family and friends of those killed that they may be greatly comforted in knowing they didn’t die alone and that they are in your care now and for ever more, and will be greatly rewarded.

Lord Jesus please come quickly that your Love, Peace, Joy and Rest will be established for evermore and all evil will be banished, in this we have the Hope of it’s reality …Your Will, will Be Done!… Thank you dear Heavenly Father.

      In Jesus Name, Amen

Hi Robin and Anne. It was such a sad story to hear about the massacre in the northern part of Nigeria. There have been so many deaths there in the past year all in the name of Islam and unfortunately, the predominantly Christian south of the country have gradually become numb to the plight of our brothers and sisters up north. We are living in an unrealistic bubble down south, thinking we are exempt from the evil that has penetrated our land and as such we have not been driven to our knees. I am afraid that if Christians fail to learn from what has happened in northern Nigeria then it’s only a matter of time before we start living in fear down south too. Please keep our nation in your prayers. There is a major battle for the soul of Nigeria. I sense it is very strategic to not only God but also the devil. Win Nigeria, win Sub Saharan Africa. Thanks Robin. I should be back to more regular blogging from Monday. God bless you guys.

Hi Watchman, I’m also saddened but know as you do that the final Victory is the Lord’s and anyone who hurts us, His Children will pay dearly, unless they repent from their heart, which also means not doing the evil they had been doing.

It is True many of us will be Martyred, persecuted and victimised because we are now in the end times but we will also be greatly blessed and rewarded as we stand up for The Lord in His strength, even unto physical death.

We look forward to sharing again with you Watchman and know we will be blessed.

Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

Hey watchman…I hope all is well! I continue to hear about Christian persecution in Nigeria and I understand those who live in South Nigeria become numb to what’s happening in the North. I will pray daily for your nation and all Christians there. Many, many blessings to you…Robin … If things get worse, you my want to think about hiding your IP address…Here’s a link….
