A couple of years ago, there was a provoking ad campaign that ran on London buses. It was funded by a group of atheists called the British Humanist Association (BHA) and it basically said: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.” I thought: ‘Is God the Source of my worries and is my life miserable because of Him’? No Way! This was simply an open attack on our God. A character assassination that people would fall for if they didn’t know Him well enough.

I remember feeling particularly perturbed at the time about how brazen atheists were becoming in aggressively promoting their views, particularly in the face of a rather timid Christian community. How wrong I was!!

Within two weeks, several Christian groups had rallied to donate funds and run their own ad campaigns in response. One example was the ad quoting Psalm 53:1 – “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God”. Another ad read: “There is a God, BELIEVE. Don’t worry and enjoy your life.” I was really pleased to see the Church take a stand for what She believes in.

Philosophically speaking, it is impossible to be an atheist, since you would have to have infinite knowledge to be absolutely sure that God does not exist. Put it this way: Only God can be an atheist because only He has infinite knowledge! For anyone who cares to look, God has clearly revealed Himself in Creation, History, Scripture and our desire to worship. It takes a lot more faith to believe in chance evolution than in a divine Creator due to the high level of intricacy seen in Creation. The greatest event in History took place 2000yrs ago when God became a Man and lived among us so we could know Him and relate to Him personally. The Bible has to be a supernatural book because it consists of 66 books written by 40 different authors over 1500yrs and yet it retains a consistency and unity of theme. Finally, our desire to worship something is evidence that there is a void in us that only God can fill. We were made for worship.

Looking at the universe and its intelligent design, one cannot help but conclude that atheism is an invalid philosophy that is intellectually bankrupt and stubbornly denies all that God keeps revealing to us (Romans 1:18-25). Because there is a God, we can relax and enjoy our lives! God bless.
